Who Will Replace Senator David Mark In 2019

By George Onmonya Daniel

For now, the names that are out there are Chief Mik, Okibe Onoja, Comrade Abba Moro, Young Alhaji and Daniel Onjeh, as it is becoming clear that Senator David Mark that has been Senator representing Zone C in Benue State since 1999 is not contesting for the post in 2019.

Mike Okibe Onoja contested with David Mark in the PDP primaries in 2015 and stepped down for Senator Mark at the die-minute before delegates started voting. He would later join the APC. Recently I met Chief Mark Okibe Onoja and asked him if he will be contesting for the senate in 2019 but he told me he hadn’t made up his mind. A very close friend of Governor Ortom of Benue State, Mike Okibe Onoja isn’t a man of so many words but he is an action man and if he decide to contest, I have no sound he would will the APC primaries.

Comrade Abba Moro is well liked by a lot of Idomas. He is in the camp of Senator David Mark. The former Minister of Interior is being praised by a lot of Idoma people for doing so much for them when he was Minister of Interior. Comrade Moro will be a candidate to beat.

Young Alhaji is a very popular Idoma son. He is a man who has passion for Idoma people and Idoma nation. Nigeria remembers him for giving Senator David Mark a fierce fight for the senate position which he lost in 2007. The messiah as he is fondly called has his eyes for the position but between him and Abba Moro, it is David Mark that will finally decide his successor.

Daniel Onjeh contested against David Mark in the last election and lost twice. He may still nurse the ambition to run for senate in 2019 being the youngest of all the other candidates and having done pretty well in the elections he lost to David Mark, but this time he is up against a very strong candidate Chief Mike Okibe Onoja.

2018/2019 in Idoma land will be quite interesting.
