Threat to life: Yemi Itodo accuses Ogbadibo Chairman of shielding culprit

 By Our Reporter

An Abuja based Media Consultant whose mother was allegedly threatened with a gun in Ogbadibo local government of Benue State on Tuesday, Mr Yemi Itodo, has expressed dissatisfaction over the role being played by the Council Chairman, Mr Simon Akola in the criminal case.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja Saturday evening, Itodo specifically accused the Council Chairman of trying to shield the accused, Mr Sunday Okonkwo from being prosecuted.

He said, as a Chief Security Officer of Ogbadibo LGA, Akola was supposed to stand on the path of justice and at best, call a meeting for all the parties concerned, rather than playing politics with the life of a widow.

Itodo said though Okonkwo is a member of Akola’s cabinet, that does not make his life more important than that of his mother, said everyone is equal before the law.

He said his team of lawyers were ready to prove to the last point that Okonkwo threatened his mother with gun, saying he had requested that the matter be taken to court on Monday.

Yemi Itodo also said his team of lawyers had perfected arrangements to also file a civil suit on Abuja next week, over Okonkwo’s spurious comments on social media, which he claimed had elements of bringing his hard earned reputations and image to disrepute.

It would be recalled that Mr Sunday Okonkwo, a Supervisory Councilor in charge of Revenue in Ogbadibo was arrested by the Nigerian Police on Thursday, following the complaint that he threatened Mrs Margaret Itodo, mother of Yemi Itodo with a gun, over comments on Facebook.

He was, however, released on bail after the intervention of the local government council.
