Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom today presented utility vehicles to the four First Class Chiefs from Benue South Senatorial District to ease their movement while discharging their official functions.

Making the presentation at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, the Governor stated that in spite of the biting economic situation, fathers of the land should not be seen moving on motorcycles, popularly called Okada.

He said formal coronation and presentation of staff of office to all the first class chiefs, inauguration of Benue State Traditional Council and that of Idoma would be done at a later date and directed his Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Titus Zam to work out a programme for the events.

Governor Ortom, who directed that further appointment of traditional rulers be stopped until certain grey areas were addressed said his administration had placed salaries of traditional rulers on first line charge in order to ensure effective performance.

While calling on opposition elements whom he said had plundered the country into recession, Governor Ortom said he did not come into government as a poor man nor with criminal intent but to make life better for all Benue people, adding that he would not be distracted by the antics of the opposition.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, His Royal Highness, Chief Obande Obeya representing Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu Traditional Council, appreciated the Governor for providing vehicles for them in spite of very difficult times.

While pledging their support to the Ortom administration, Chief Obeya appealed to the Governor to continue to channel the little resources at his disposal to payment of salaries, stressing that they would help educate their subjects on the economic situation in the country and state in particular.

At the event, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Terwase Orbunde, prayed over the vehicles, the traditional rulers and the entire administration of Governor Ortom.

Vehicles presented to the traditional rulers included one Prado SUV and Hilux each.
