Another important step towards the establishment of the Agasha – Guma sugar cane-fuel ethanol project expected to boost fuel sufficiency in the country has been taken with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Benue State Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The event which took place at the NNPC Towers, the corporate headquarters of the NNPC had the Benue State Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu and the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Tony Ijohor, SAN signing for the state while the NNPC Group Managing Director (GMD), Dr. Maikanti Baru and the corporation’s legal adviser, Hajia Hadiza Coomasie signed for the NNPC.

When completed, the biofuel project apart from creating over 1 million and indirect jobs and generating 64 MW electricity shall also provide a wide range of services and benefits among them, 20,000 hectares sugar cane feedstock plantation, construction of cane mill and raw/refined sugar plant with production capacity of 126,000 tons/year; ethanol fuel processing plant with capacity of 84 million litres/year and animal feeds at 63,000tons/year.
