Peace Corps Will Tackle Challenges Confronting Youths – Dickson Akoh

The national commandant, Nigerian Peace Corps (NPC), Amb. DrDickson Akoh has disclosed that the overwhelming challenges confronting Nigerian youths and the need to come up with a platform to meet their needs and aspirations necessitated the urgency for the establishment of the Nigerian Peace Corps.

Amb Akoh, who disclosed this in Abuja yesterday, during the launch of Glamour International Magazine in Abuja, reiterated the need for pragmatic synergy between federal and state governments, private sector and individuals to tackle the high rate of youth unemployment in the country.

He also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reconsider signing the NPC bill saying, it will tackle numerous challenges confronting Nigerian youths. The National commandant who was represented by the deputy national commandant, Dr Edet Ekpeyong lamented lack of vibrant industries to absorb competent graduates.

He, however, urged federal government to encourage massive private investment in the petroleum sector to ultimately create millions of jobs. “The deficiency in school curricula and poor teacher training have contributed to the failure of educational institutions to impart in their students the appropriate skills to make them employable,” he averred.

“Happenings around the world have continued to show that security cannot be divorced from developmental issues. Joblessness, diseases and exploitation are the real causes of insecurity, and not the fear of external aggression. ‘’This trend if not tackled, there is likelihood that we may soon begin to agonize over spilt milk as the wave of sundry crimes take over our directionless youth,” he said.
