Hon Titus Uba, Hon Emmanuel Jime, Rev Ikyaan, and others Endorse University of Mkar Public Lecture

Speaker Benue State House of Assembly Rt Honourable Titus Uba, Governorship Candidate’s Hon Emmanuel Jime and Rev Dr Ikyaan of the People Democratic Party, All Progressive Congress APC and the People Redemption party PRP respectively have lauded the efforts made by University of Mkar Student Executive Council in educating Benue youths most especially students on the imperatives of a free, fair and peaceful election in Benue state come 2019. Hon Titus Uba made this statement while receiving a delegation of the Students Representatives led by the President Comr Enemona John Ogbole.
Adressing the students who came to officially invite the Speaker, to their 2nd Public lecture and fund raising ceremony to build a student secretariat, Hon Titus Uba frowned at the use of young people as political thugs, and agents of destructions during elections stressing that youths were meant be nurtured as society builders and Engineers and not agents of destruction. He charged politicians to shun any form of violence involving youths most especially students in the upcoming general election stressing that the Benue state House of Assembly under his leadership would not leave any stone unturned in making sure a condusive environment was created in Benue state for a free and fair election. Hon Titus Uba also promised to grace the occasion and encouraged all politicians in the state to be a part of the public Lecture as it had nothing to do with political parties rather the public lecture should be seen as an avenue for critical stakeholders in the state to come together united as a people with a common goal of salvaging and improving the fortunes of the state and lectures like this can only serve as an avenue for peace building and sensitization of the masses most especially the youths.
Also speaking to the Students, Governorship Candidate of the All Progressive Congress APC Hon Emmanuel Jime who was very delighted to see the students lauded their initiative stressing that ideas and public lectures like this were the kind of things that interest him and as individual. Hon Emmanuel Jime also went further advise Benue youths against cultism and other social vices stating that engagement in cult related activities has never helped any young man or womam before. He frowned at politician’s who gave arms and ammunitions to youths and students during election elections. Hon Jime was of the opinion when elections were over such weapons still remain in the hands of these youths and that is what they use in maiming them selves over little issues which would have been settled with a simple conversation. Emmanuel Jime was very impressed with the topic and the proposed guest speaker AVM Monday Morgan Riku and He also promised the Students that he will be there to support them as no right thinking politician in the state who has the people at heart would want to boycott such a well planned Public lecture.
In another development, the Governorship candidate for the Peoples Redemption Party PRP Rev Dr Ikyaan expressed joy over the initiatives of the Students stating that the topic, “Youths Participation in Election Violence; its effect on democracy and Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria” came at a very crucial time. He lauded the management of the University for giving support to the student leaders stating that if other universities and Tertiary Institutions in the state do thesame, then he saw no reason why the state would not be developed within a short period of time. According to Rev Dr Ikyaan, the rapid development of any state depends on the development of the young people in that society and as such He would not miss the Public lecture for any reason.
Reacting to ladies and gentlemen of the Press when asked questions about the upcoming Public Lecture, the President University of Mkar Student Executive Council Rt Comr Enemona John Ogbole appreciated the support and assurance gotten sofar from various political candidates and stakeholders in the state. Comr John said the rationale behind the lecture was not to promote any candidate in particular as this was not a political even rather the public lecture is aimed at promoting a violence free election in Benue state come 2019. Comr John appealed to the political class not to arm youths and students with ammunitions they wont be able to recover after elections and the proliferation of small and light arms were becoming a serious threat to the peaceful co existences in the society. Also speaking to journalist, the CPC Ag. Secretary Comr Ishom Calvin Tesem-Torshom expressed satisfaction with the receptions and words of encouragement gotten from different political parties and candidates within the state so far. He said he felt encouraged by the manner in which the Speaker, and governorship Candidates received the delegation as other candidates from other political parties were ready to meet with the team and show support.
As at the time of filling this report the candidate’s for the Zenith Labour Party, Labour party, SDP and UPP had all scheduled a meeting with the students as they all expressed eagerness to partner with stakeholders in the state to promote a peaceful and violence free election in 2019.
