BENUE FLOOD: “The irresponsibility of previous government brought about the rendition of this ugly tragedy” Idoma Students National President cries out!!!

BENUE FLOOD CASE IS TOO IMPORTANT TO BE POLITICISED.

The recent quagmire brought on Benue people by the ravaging effect of flood is pathetic and touching, some of us who went to some affected areas could not help but shade tears. Students, women and children left homeless and properties worth millions were destroyed leaving some with minimal hope of livelihood.

As painful as the flood story is, I am further pained by the dirty politics and trivialisation of the issue especially on the cyberspace. truth be told the flood story in Benue state is not an unfamiliar one, it has been there but the irresponsibility of previous government brought about the rendition of this ugly tragedy.

It is unfortunate that our system promotes response above prevention because those saddled with the responsibility of averting such disaster are too far away from the receiving ends. They wait patiently for such times to come, only to be benevolent in words or in actions targeted at painting themselves as saints.

It is important to note that no amount of public relations (PR) move or popularity staunch can reverse the damage done by the flood. Rather than harvest sympathy or popularity I think that leaders from within and outside Benue learn to be proactive and desist from deceptive philanthropic gestures targeted at securing political loyalty.

we must work together in truth to make Benue great.
